How to Translate Pimped-Fusion |
|
First of all you should know this - If you want to have fully operational Multi-lingual site and fully operational RSS feeds, you need to store the content in Unicode UTF-8.
Required Files:
1. Notepad Plus - Best translators tool - Download
2. Pimped-Fusion Translators Edition - Required files by current version. - Download
Download and Install Notepad Plus
Download and extract the files from PiF Translator Edition
go to Locale folder, select all files and folders and open with... Notepad Plus.
The main interface looks like this screen:
Take a closer look in Bottom Right corner, in your open files by default will be Windows ANSI.
Click on menu Encoding, select Encode in UTF-8 without BOM and you can start your translations.
This should be done, each time for each file, before you start your translation.
Via the same menu, you can convert your already translated files,
Double-check your translated files, before you save and close it.
Translating means that the new generated language should make the application understandable to people which not understand English and/or German, eg. Chinese or Serbians.
Every time when you finish a file, upload it to your testing domain and check how it looks, Some words like Infusions - don't exists in other languages, so you can translate them as Modules, Addons, Extensions. The second missing word is Infuse, it should be changed to Install and so on.
Based on the file you going to translate, HIT is not always hit, it can be:
This web link have % hits - it will be translated as visits.
this download link have % hits - have to be translated as downloads.
This thread is viewed % times - viewed stays better and shorter as reads, same is for articles, but reads/views can't be used for Downloads/Links.
Most nova days Content Management Systems relays on 3rd party libraries, Calendar lib, mailer lib and so on. You should check and verify translations for this files, if they're exist and up to date (eg. in correct charset (UTF-8 without BOM).
Short README file should be provided with instructions to the end user.
Something like this:
Content: PiF 0.7.0 xx-XX (country code) localization
Translator(s): They're names and/or site.
Instructions: For using your work and PiF on some outdated hosting providers.
1. Go to your HSP CPanel or similar software
2. Create new mysql database
3. Assign user to that database
4. Open phpMyAdmin and go to this newly created database
4.1. Click options
4.2. Set database coalitions by default to utf8_general_cl
5. Log out from your CPanel and proceed with PiF installation
6. Point your browser to http://yourdomain.tld/_install/setup.php
AGPL is stupid license, and don't required to be translated at this point, probably later when 1.0.0 comes out and if license is changed, you have to translate a short version of the selected license for the end users.
You don't need to translate tinyMCE or in future CKEDitor files, just download latest Editor files from author site, and check every language file if is up to date and in right charset. |
